term time holiday fines....
(tin hat firmly on)

In a couple of weeks I will be taking Mrs Devon and the little Devons on holiday.
All very well....except I will be taking the little buggers out of school for 2 weeks.

I don`t like dong this (I really don`t) but being a paramedic in a chronically stretched NHS means annual leave is being severely rationed and allocated.
I have NO leave given to me during school holidays.
`Tough shit` I hear you say.
Well yes.....that is a perfectly valid opinion.

But frankly I need/deserve/require a break or I`m going to go postal and drive the ambulance into the next line of vulnerable old people I see waiting at a bus stop (and there is no shortage of them in south Devon).

I have explained all this (well...not the going postal bit ) in my holiday request to the schools.....but Plymouth Council have a reputation for fining everyone under the new guidelines.

So good people of WHO (is that an oxymoron) - what is your experience of this?
Any good legal advice?

I agree with the parents being fined.

Tell them its a family wedding abroad. This is an "exceptional circumstance" under the rules.

My sister got married last year, and my mrs brother (cunt) this year. Havnt thought of one for next year.

I quit the governers board due to a row with a teacher over term time holiday. Teacher said "well i dont ageee with it at all. Even 1 day out can affect their whole life"

My reply ...."doesnt seem to worry you when you lot go on strike though".

Call you council and make sure you provide proof of said wedding, fake invite mock up etc.

I have family abroad, we have to visit them, August is a big no-no in the middle east.

Haven't been fined yet, but fuck 'em if they do

Re: term time holiday fines....
Two of my kids have been sick/injured regularly this year so have missed quite a bit of school. They have all the docs letters etc to back this up. I still have to go to the school every term where they give me a fucking warning notice about being fined for kids not attending even though they know they can't do that as I have evidence that the kids are FUCKING SICK YOU STUPID CUNTS.

I've got to have this term's meeting on Wednesday next week. Will need to take a deep breath before going so I don't lose it.

Why can't you take leave during holidays? Are you that much busier then?

Presumably you do get to take all of your leave though?

Re: term time holiday fines....
I don't blame you

Frankly, it's hakd the price to go outside the school holidays. My little boy starts school in September and we've booked a holiday fri befire the end if july as its the last chance for at least 12 years we'll be able to do it at a reasonable price

I'm not sure about taking a whole 2 weeks off school, but you get in the shit for missing the last day of term or a few days normally. It's a joke really - a kid in my year at school used to take days off to go to Wimbledon as his dads company had a box. Tgeyvwerentvevenvsubtle about it - he'd come in with bags of Wimbledon merchandise the next day (though never the sneaky based pic of anna kournikova in changing rooms he promised me)

Anyway I digress. Good luck to you - if they aren't mossing a key period around exam time, I don't see why it's so wrong.

Re: term time holiday fines....
I don't Stoneman, i had a teacher say to me they understand how kids take a while to get back up to speed after their 6 week holidays. If teachers are still happy taking a 6 week break knowing that it effects a child's learning then I cannot see how they can fairly argue that parents are damaging their child's education significantly (at primary level) if they take a short family holiday. Seems a bit hypocritical. Kids get a lot from family quality family time.

Re: term time holiday fines....
When the whining cunts go on thier next strike, sue the council/school for material loss if you have to take a day off unpaid.

My mates kids school in SAINTS got it spot on. The head got all the parents in a said basically fuck the new rules, HOWEVER he would only agree 5 days off. Anything over that then they get a fine. Got all the parents on board.sensible thinking like this is few and far between in the teaching profession though.

Re: term time holiday fines....
I disagree. As soon as one does it everyone follows and laws need to be laid down. The kids get plenty of holiday time so there is no excuse and face facts parents only do it to get a cheap holiday.

I'd say its no ones business when i take my kids on holiday. As long as you dont take them during exams etc then whats the issue?

Rusta 12:08 Fri May 15
Re: term time holiday fines....
Stoneman

Some parents do it because it's the only way they can afford a holiday not just to get a cheapie

What is the fine anyway?

Re: term time holiday fines....
Despite my rant... it is the government's rule, not schools. One of the things schools get marked down on is attendance. Even APPROVED absence e.g. sickness means when it gets inspected, if there is significant absence it's a mark against the school so it could be the difference between "outstanding" and "good" or "good" and "requires improvement". Before the government changes the legislation, if absence was approved then it didn't count against the school.

So blame both Labour and Tories who were happy with the change.

Not the schools.

Even though I'm a hypocrite and do blame my child's school for it. Cunts.

How about - "I'm sorry, I'm an irresponsible cunt"

Taken my son out for two weeks last couple of years. Threatened with fine but it still would have worked out much cheaper. Fine is only £60 I think.

Is bringing your children up to be sphincter clenching little englanders seen as responsible parenting?

Darlo Debs 12:20 Fri May 15
Re: term time holiday fines....
Cant see what is irresponsible about wanting to spend some time with your own family. Would have thought not wanting to spend time with them is worse.

I'm not a fan of taking your kids out of school, but who the fuck gave these people the "right" to start fining people??
